Two young refugees attempt to escape awful circumstances by stowing away in the cargo hold of a plane. They freeze to death. This is the starting point of Home. Nine young people from culturally diverse backgrounds explore the concept of home.

When Platform was still a part of the City of Darebin, Home was a project centred on young people from the local area working with professional writers, director and musician to workshop, write and perform a work of contemporary theatre. Funded by the Department of Immigration, the focus was on young people’s experience of cultural diversity – its positives and contrasting points of prejudice and racism.

The play was written and devised primarily by the cast of young non-professional theatre workers, over a period of about six months. It toured regional Victoria as part of the 2000 Next Wave Festival.
