Platform Youth Theatre

Platform has been making theatre with young people since 1998, here’s some of what we’ve done.

One Is Warm In Winter, The Other Has A Better View

The show ran December 3-13, 2009. Details here

Faith, Diversity and Difference

Our major production for 2009 unpacks the words Faith, diversity and difference from the point of view of young people of specific faith groups living in a secular society.

Four Horsepersons of the Apocalypse

Over the course of the 2008/09, Platform presents a series of four projects based on the theme of each of The Four Horsepersons of the Apocalypse. Each of these works will be quite different in their developmental processes and public presentations.

Projects

The projects for the Four Horsepersons of the Apocalypse include:
Famine: A musical production called ENOUGH, by Wes Snelling and Wally Gunn. ENOUGH was presented in July 2008 at fortyfivedownstairs.
Pestilence: An improvisation workshop and performance with David Ryding. The workshops run August to September 2008, the performance occurred in September to October 2008 as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
War: A hip hop workshop and performance led by Gorkem Acaroglu.
Death: A playwriting commission for a selected young playwright to develop a script. ‘Crossed’ was presented as a first draft reading June 2009. During 2010 ‘Crossed’ will go through a creative development process with Dramaturg Angela Betzien and Director Leticia Careres from REAL TV.

Tenderise program (2007-08)

The 2007/08 Tenderise program of projects looked at the changing gender roles amongst young people. We felt that gender was a subject that transforms as much as it is transforming; a subject of projected as well as perceived communication.

The projects for the Tenderise program included:
• The New Write: A playwriting workshop facilitated by Ross Mueller and Tee O’Neill. A reading of selected works was presented at the end of the workshop. The readings were directed by David Ryding and presented as part of the launch of the Northcote Town Hall.
• DAPPER: A devising and performance workshop facilitated by Karen Berger. Seven plays were devised and presented in July 2007.
• Tenderness: A commissioned double-bill of plays by Patricia Cornelius and Christos Tsiolkas, directed by Nadja Kostich. Tenderness was presented at fortyfivedownstairs in March 2008.

Terror codes program (2006-07)

The 2006/07 Terror codes program took its inspiration from the US Homeland Security’s Terror Codes chart.

The projects for the Terror Codes program included:
• Cotton Wool and Camphor Wood
• Citizen Corps
• The Yellow Peril
• Golem of Rucker’s Hill
